Families hid during robberies

A teenage boy would be among three people appearing in the Pampierstad magistrate's court on charges of armed robbery on Friday, North West police said.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Louis Jacobs said a 16-year-old boy was arrested along with two men aged 26 after they robbed two tuckshops in Mmamutla village near Pampierstad.

The first tuckshop was robbed on Tuesday night and the second was robbed on Wednesday at about 2am. The group allegedly broke the doors of the tuckshops and stole groceries valued at R7 000 from each tuckshop.

They were arrested on Wednesday morning when a police officer on his way to work saw a man with a big bag standing at a bus stop. He stopped and searched the bag and found some groceries in it.

The man confessed to stealing the groceries and he was arrested. The two other people were later arrested and police recovered all the stolen items.

In both incidents, the tuckshop owners and their families hid during the robbery.
