Mpuma politician gunned down
Johannesburg - The Mpumalanga local government politician
shot dead outside her home in Leslie has been identified as Thandi Motshwene,
44.
She was the deputy executive mayor of the Govan Mbeki municipality
in Leslie, Mpumalanga police said on Thursday.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said Motshwene was shot on
Wednesday evening shortly after arriving home with her husband and 14-year-old
son.
She was opening the kitchen door to take groceries inside
while her husband was parking the car and the teenager was closing the
gate shortly before 19:00.
Two gunmen waiting in the yard attacked her, and shot her
three times. Paramedics declared her dead on the scene.
The killers fled past the youngster without taking anything
or wounding anyone else, said Khoabane.
He said the motive for the killing was not yet known, nor
was it known whether it was linked to the woman's work.
Police were searching for Motshwene's killers.
