Policewoman shot in face

Johannesburg - A policewoman was shot during an armed robbery at Isipingo on Saturday, Durban police said.

Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Radebe said the policewoman had been driving with her partner, along Mbumbulu road, Isipingo, when they noticed a store being robbed.

"Five armed men were approaching their get-away vehicle, with approximately R30 000 of stolen money when the police intercepted."

She said that one of the men then grabbed the policewoman and shot her in the face and the right knee.

"A shooting ensued between the robbers and the other policeman, and the stolen money was dropped."

The robbers then fled in a black Polo.

"The policewoman is in a critical condition and we are still searching for the suspects," said Radebe.
