Boy dies in shoot-out Cape Town - A five-year-old boy has died during the robbery of a 67-year-old man at gunpoint, and a taxi driver has been shot dead, in two separate incidents in Kraaifontein. in the Western Cape In the first incident, Police spokesperson Constable Siphokazi Mawisa said a man was threatened at gunpoint by three men and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money at an Engen station along the N1. A family from Oudtshoorn who were parked nearby saw the robbery and tried to drive off for their own safety. The suspects fired several shots into the car and the five-year-old boy was shot in the face and later died in hospital, Mawisa said. No other people were injured and the suspects ran away. Cases of armed robbery and murder have been opened. Taxi driver shot In the second incident, Constable Siphokazi Mawisa said the 31-year-old driver was shot in front of his boss's house after dropping off money. The driver and two other taxi drivers were on their way to the taxi when three men approached them and started to fire several shots at them. The driver was hit in the head and died later in hospital. The other men were shot in the back and are in a stable condition in hospital. The suspects ran away and are still at large. Mawisa said the motive at this stage was unknown but all possibilities would be investigated. A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened. |
