A
five-year-old boy was shot and killed in the Western Cape last night
after his family witnessed a robbery. The family is still in shock.
At about 7pm last night the family stopped at a filling station
to wait for other family members to meet them. They were travelling
from their home town in Oudtshoorn to Eerste Rivier for a funeral.
While waiting in the car park, Samantha Meiring noticed an elderly
couple behind them being robbed at gunpoint.
The gunmen noticed her witnessing the robbery and tried shooting
her, but instead her son Dylan (5) was hit in the face and died
before reaching the hospital.
Meiring says they tried to get assistance along the road but nobody
would stop or come to their aid. As some small consolation, the
family met with the man that was robbed last night. He sympathised
with the family saying that the bullet that killed their son was
meant for him.
