Passenger shoots taxi driver

Johannesburg - A taxi driver was shot dead in Randfontein by one of his passengers, West Rand police said on Wednesday.

A witness told police the taxi had been travelling normally on Tuesday evening, when it suddenly swerved to the left, said Captain Joseph Mogoai.

"According to the witness, shots were fired and approximately eight occupants jumped out of the vehicle - one had a gun on him," he said.

The witness then ran to the taxi, and found the driver shot in the head.

Mogoai said police were alerted but could not find the shooter or any of the other occupants.

"We urge the passengers to please come forward and assist us in the investigation," said Mogoai.
