Burglar shot dead

Johannesburg - A Polokwane resident allegedly shot and killed a burglar early on Sunday morning, Limpopo police said.

Police spokesperson Mhale Rametseba said two men allegedly broke into a house in Bendor, waking up the home owner.

The owner went to investigate and when one of the men threatened him with a knife, he shot the man, said Rametseba.

The burglar died on the spot and the second man fled on foot. Police were alerted and searched unsuccessfully for the second man.

Cases of murder and attempted murder have been opened.

Rametseba said the director for public prosecutions would decide whether the home owner would be prosecuted.
