Johannesburg - A burglar was shot dead and his alleged accomplice
wounded in a shooting with a homeowner in Randburg on Wednesday, Johannesburg
police said.
Spokesperson Bheki Mavundla said three men entered a house
belonging to a middle-aged man at around 07.30.
"The owner was awakened by the robbers and armed himself
with a licensed firearm."
The men then forced him out of his house, and into the car
port.
"The owner managed to escape from the clutches of the robbers
and began to run," said Mavundla.
One of the robbers began shooting at the owner but missed.
The owner then shot back, killing one of the men. The other was wounded
in the leg, and the third man ran away.
"Police were summoned and declared the man dead."
He said that the injured man was taken to hospital and the
other was arrested at his house in Alexandra soon after.
"A case of attempted murder and robbery have been opened,"
said Mavundla.
He said that the men will appear in court soon.
