Dad in court for killing intruder

A father of two young children, who faces a murder charge after shooting an intruder in his home, has made his second appearance in the Wynberg magistrate's court in Cape Town.

A neatly dressed Alfred Morton Tissong, 39, seemed relaxed when he stood in the dock before Magistrate Hafeesa Mohamed on Monday.

The proceedings were a sequel to an incident in May when Tissong, a self-employed spray painter, shot and killed Kenneth Samuels at his home in Lotus River.

Samuels had been with an unnamed alleged accomplice, who was wounded in the incident.

At Tissong's first court appearance on May 14, prosecutor Alecia Meredith told the court that Tissong, in fact, faced two charges - murder and attempted murder.

At Monday's hearing, the charge sheet only gave details of the murder charge, but did not name the wounded man.

Another prosecutor, Nina Meyer, told the court a postmortem report was still outstanding and that attorney Greg Duncan was to represent Tissong.

At Meyer's request, the trial was postponed to November 23, and Tissong's R1 000 bail was extended. - Sapa
