Johannesburg - Eastern Cape police say a 19-year-old man
has been shot in the buttocks after robbing a policeman's daughter
in East London.
Spokesperson Belinda du Rand said two men threatened the
girl with a knife and robbed her of money in Amalinda near East London.
As they were running away, the girl's father, an off-duty
police officer, saw them and gave chase.
He tried to apprehend one of the robbers, who tried to stab
him.
The policeman fired a warning bullet, but the knife man
persisted. Another shot went off during the struggle, hitting the robber
in the buttocks. The policeman was not injured.
The wounded robber was arrested and taken to hospital where
he is under police guard.
A home-made knife was seized and a case of robbery was opened.
The second man was still at large, Du Rand said.
