Not a good day for car hijackers
August 22 2007 at 08:03AM
By Jeff Wicks
Things did not go as planned for two men who tried to hijack a Phoenix
man on Tuesday afternoon.
Police Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said that two men had mugged a woman
as she crossed Stone Bridge Drive and then looked around for a get-away
vehicle.
"When they tried to hijack a man who had stopped at a traffic light, he
resisted.
"He drew his firearm and fired one shot, which wounded one of his attackers,"
said Mngomezulu.
The men ran off and found refuge in a densely wooded plot near a river
adjacent to where the robbery had taken place.
A joint search by Phoenix police, the flying squad and dog unit officers
resulted in the arrest of both robbers.
ER24 paramedic Stanley Reddy said that one robber had sustained a gunshot
wound to his chest and was in a serious condition.
Mngomezulu said police were investigating the incident and that the men
could be linked to other crimes in the area.
The uninjured robber was expected to appear in court later this week.
