A would-be robber was shot and wounded while trying to rob
a cash van in Noordhoek on Wednesday, Cape Town police said.
Captain Elliot Sinyangana said a Coin Security guard had collected money
at the Sun Valley shopping complex when he was accosted by a group of
armed men.
"While the security guard was putting the cash bag inside the vehicle,
he was confronted by a man who instructed him to lie down."
The guard's partner immediately came to his colleague's rescue and fired
three shots at the robber, seriously wounding him in his upper body, said
Sinyangana.
Three other robbers managed to get away.
No money was taken and the two guards were not injured.
"The man is hospital under police guard. He is facing a charge of attempted
robbery," said Sinyangana. - Sapa
