Farmworkers catch robbers Bethlehem - Farmworkers have apprehended three robbers on a farm near Kestell while the farm owner and his family were at a funeral in Pretoria, police said on Thursday. Superintendent Motarafi Ntepe said the employees were working near the farm house of Johannes Swart when they noticed suspicious movements at the house on Wednesday afternoon. "They rushed to the scene and when the suspects noticed the workers they fled on foot, but the farmworkers gave chase." Ntepe said Swart's younger son, who was on his way home, noticed the incident and helped. She said the fleeing robbers allegedly started firing shots at their pursuers and the owner's son, who returned fire. "One of the suspects was shot in the leg and was taken to hospital and the other two suspects were also arrested by the workers." Ntepe said police found three firearms, live ammunition, jewellery to the value to R30 000 and cash in the robbers' possession. Three men, aged between 20 and 24, from the Mangaung, Namahadi and Bochabela Villages in QwaQwa, were arrested. They would appear in the Kestell Magistrate's Court on Friday facing charges of housebreaking, theft, possession of suspected stolen property and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
