Robber shot in the head Johannesburg - A robber was shot in the head on Friday, allegedly by a security guard after he had been arrested by police in Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg. Police spokesperson Sergeant Sanku Tsunke said the security guard, in his 40s, allegedly shot one of four robbers after they had been apprehended by police around 09:00 on Friday in Stanford road. Tsunke said off-duty police officer Inspector Makhosonke Ngobese had driven passed the house earlier on Friday and saw two men sitting outside 44 Stanford Road. When he returned the men where still sitting outside and together with another off-duty police officer Inspector Dikobe, he arrested the men. Hid in the ceiling "One tried to escape but he was caught," he said. Ngobese and a security guard from Walkerville Armed Reaction (War) then went inside the house where they found stolen property already packed into bags. When they went into the main bedroom they discovered that two men were hiding in the ceiling. "The security guard managed to get inside the ceiling and subdued the suspects with pepper spray." Ngobese said the police had made a "good arrest" and had all four of the robbers tied up and lying face down on the floor. "Another man, alleged to be a security guard [then] came to the scene and shot one of the suspects in the head," he said. The robber was taken to hospital under police guard. Tsunke said the man was in a "very critical condition". Anita Grobler, War's lawyer refused to comment on whether the security guard implicated was a War employee. "I cannot confirm or deny anything at this stage," she said. The residents of 42 Stanford Road, where the men were allegedly found, were not at home at the time of the robbery or the shooting, said Tsunke. The security guard was arrested and faces charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm in a municipal area. Those arrested face charges of housebreaking. |
