Plot owner kills armed robber

Johannesburg - A robber was shot and killed after he and five accomplices entered a Strydfontein, Akasia, plot and opened fire on the occupants, Pretoria police said on Thursday.

Captain Lucas Sithole said the men entered the plot around 09:30 and "without a word", they started shooting.

"Their intention was to rob," he said.

The owner of the plot retaliated by shooting back, killing one of the six men.

The other men fled in separate vehicles.

One of the vehicles, a Ford Bantam, was spotted and followed by the Rietgat police.

The man inside the vehicle eventually abandoned it and ran away.

No arrests had been made. A case of attempted robbery was under investigation.
