Ice cream shop robber killed

Pretoria - One of six robbers was shot dead during a robbery in an ice cream shop in Mabopane, north of Pretoria, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

The six men held up the shop, in the Central City shopping centre, at about 18:30 on Tuesday, said Inspector Paul Ramaloko.

"They took a substantial amount of cash and fled in the owner's bakkie. One suspect in his thirties was shot dead by a security guard."

Police confiscated a firearm that had been in his possession.

The remaining robbers were still at large with the cash and the bakkie.
